3 essential garden tasks for family time in the garden – August

Gardening offers more than just a chance to grow plants; it’s a fantastic way for families to connect and create lasting memories. Here are three must-do garden tasks that everyone can enjoy together, making the experience fun and engaging for all ages.

Plant and prune passionfruit
A single passionfruit vine can yield an impressive amount of delicious fruit for your family to enjoy! Now is an ideal time to plant a new vine, though if you’re in a colder, frosty area, it’s best to wait another month or so. If you have an overgrown vine, now is also the perfect time to prune it. Pruning encourages new growth in spring, leading to an abundance of flowers and fruit.

Plant summer flowering bulbs
Once you plant them, summer flowering bulbs will bring colour and interest to your garden year after year. Choose from a variety of stunning options including fragrant Asiatic lilies, showy belladonna lilies, hardy autumn crocus, flamboyant hippeastrums or the colourful gladioli made famous by our iconic superstar, Dame Edna Everidge. Head to your local Bunnings garden centre or search online catalogues to find the perfect summer bulbs for your garden.

Prune, feed and mulch hibiscus
Hibiscus shrubs bloom on new growth, making late winter/early spring the perfect time to rejuvenate them. Start by pruning back any overgrown branches. Next, spread fertiliser around the base, water deeply, and cover the soil with a layer of The Garden Family Sugar Cane Mulch to retain moisture. This will encourage a flush of fresh growth and a stunning display of blooms.
