Get your lawn into shape
Ready to spruce up your lawn? Start by aerating those compacted spots where everyone’s been walking – just plunge a garden fork into the soil at regular intervals. This helps with water and nutrient absorption. Next, spread organic fertiliser evenly to give your lawn a nutritional boost, and water well. To level out dips and bumps, use a steel rake to spread a thin layer of sand or topdressing soil.
Plant out seedlings
The arrival of spring is the perfect time to plant your vegie and flower seedlings if you’re in a warm, frost-free area. Prep your soil with compost and organic fertiliser to ensure it’s rich and fertile. Space your seedlings as recommended and give them a good watering to help them settle in. Finish with a layer of sugar cane mulch to keep moisture in and weeds out. This is a great activity the whole family can help with, measuring, digging, potting out, watering and mulching. Then everyone is excited to watch the seedlings grow!
Repot container plants
Spring is also prime time for repotting your indoor and outdoor container plants. Start by checking the roots for damage and trim away any dead or diseased bits. Choose a pot that’s one or two sizes larger with good drainage holes. Use a premium potting mix and add some slow-release fertiliser. After repotting, give your plants a thorough watering. For outdoor pots, cover the surface with sugar cane mulch to help conserve moisture.
